We are a youth-focused nonprofit organisation that exists to empower young people for life, leadership, and service. Our work centers around building a just world by promoting equity, peace,
and opportunity, especially in underserved communities.
We offer a wide range of services, including youth empowerment programs, skills workshops, community outreach, mental health and wellness initiatives, sports and recreation, and safe accommodation and conferencing through our Y-Stay Backpackers & Hostel.

Our programmes respond to real needs in the community, from substance abuse prevention to access to mental health support. They equip young people with life skills, help build safer schools
and communities, and create opportunities for personal and professional growth.
Our programmes are implemented at our YMCA Centre in Parkside, Gqeberha, and in local schools, community spaces, and outreach areas across Nelson Mandela Bay.
Our youth programmes are free, thanks to donors and income generated through our Y-Stay accommodation.

You don’t need formal experience, just a heart for community work, a willingness to learn, and reliability. We provide orientation and ongoing support.
Active volunteers who demonstrate commitment and leadership potential can apply to become official YMCA members. To qualify, you’ll need to meet certain criteria — such as having volunteered
for a specific period and paying a membership fee. Full details are available when you get in touch. As a member, you’ll have a voice in shaping the future of our work and may take on greater leadership
responsibilities.
Yes, we occasionally host interns, especially students studying Public Relations, Social Work, Education, or related fields. If you're interested in gaining hands-on experience while making a

Our team includes youth workers, programs facilitators, social work students, admin and support staff, and long-term volunteers, all dedicated to creating positive change.
Y-Stay Backpackers Hostel is a hospitality venture aimed at providing safe, affordable, and purpose-driven accommodation in Nelson Mandela Bay. More than just a place to stay, Y-Stay is committed to empowering communities by aligning our business success with the mission of YMCA Nelson Mandela Bay. We believe that hospitality can be a powerful force for good, and every guest at Y-Stay directly contributes to transformative projects led by the YMCA.
